Why Are Our Rates So High?
Vallecitos Water District water and sewer rates rank in the lowest quarter of all the water sewer districts in the county. The average cost in San Diego County is less than $.01 per gallon.
Where Does Our Water Come From?
We receive water from four sources. The State Water Project which brings water from the California Delta down to San Marcos, the California Aqueduct which brings water from the Colorado River, the Carlsbad Bud Lewis Desalinization Plant, and an agreement with Imperial Valley to take their saved water via the All-American Canal.
Where Do We Store Our Water?
San Diego County has 26 storage reservoirs. The two most local are Lake Hodges and San Vicente reservoirs.
What Is A “Unit” Of Water On My Water Bill?
100 ft.³ or 748 gallons.
How Can I Lower My Water Bill?
Replacing old shower-heads and toilets is the first step. Additionally replacing appliances like washing machines and dishwashers will also save monthly water use. Lastly, changing out landscaping areas from grass sod to more water wise landscaping plant material.
What Drought Level Are We Presently In?
California State requested us to move into voluntary level II in the month of March. What Does Level II Require? A reduction in usage by voluntary reducing outside watering. With this we can lower our drought level.
